One Acre Café is a faith based nonprofit cafe that offers delicious meals to all – regardless of one’s ability to pay.

One Acre Café began as a dream in early 2012, when a group of friends decided they wanted to do something about the growing problem of hunger in our area. We learned about the success of community cafes sprouting up across the U.S. based on the model developed by One World Everybody Eats [OWEE]. Providing an option to volunteer in lieu of payment seemed like a dignified option to hunger.

One Acre Café’s mission “is to nourish the body, replenish the spirit, and grow the community so all might be fed.”

Their vision is to see all of our community members, regardless of their means, dining together and supporting one another in building the strength of our community. Wherever possible, they source ingredients from local growers. More information available via their website.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

The Enveloping Landscape is a documentary project that focuses on the southern Appalachian landscape while questioning the nature of visual perception and its impact on feelings of connection, care and belonging. By combining photography and the practice of gestural rituals, she creates expansive sensual images with cameras constructed to photograph round. Her photographs celebrate the sovereign beauty of the natural world and the ground of being from which this beauty emerges.

She lives in Marshall, NC where she is the director of Makers Circle, a residency, retreat, and workshop center for photographers and makers.

I began the Solargram Project in 2006 and have been making them regularly throughout the years. A solorgram is made using a simple pinhole camera loaded with photographic paper. The camera is placed facing south. The camera captures the path of the sun as it moves across the sky. The exposures can be one day, weeks, months, or years. After the camera is taken down, the photo must be scanned to reveal the negative image, and then inverted to reveal the positive image. Sometimes water, insects or mold on the paper in the camera changes the final out come of the image. I use this process to mark the passage of time. Collecting memories of days etched on the photo paper, sometimes to mark a special day, celebration or holiday. Capturing and memorializing time, time that passes and will never be here again. A reminder of the transience of life and the importance of our time on earth. Moment Mori…
